SDG 17.2.5: IUL collaborates with NGOs and/or businesses to tackle the SDGs

The Islamic University of Lebanon supports together with some NGOs for tackling of strengthening sustainable development goals, supporting these goals through events and different strategies.

For example, under the supervision of the Lebanese National Committee for UNESCO, the UNESCO Club was launched through its first project at the Islamic University of Lebanon – Tire Branch, under the title “Sawa”, which corresponds to the first goal of the sustainable development goals “The eradication of poverty”.

The campaign was launched by the students of the club members, and therefore, the university students and the administrative and educational bodies were invited to participate in this volunteer work in order to secure these needs.

Each volunteer will provide the things, books, food and clothes that he does not want to be sorted and distributed to poor families, as their work will depend on collecting information about these families from the municipalities and activities of the region. Then, donation boxes were set up at the university in order to buy food and distribute it to the needy before the holy month of Ramadan. The club will also hold a free summer course for low-income children during the month of July, which we will announce later.

The Conference on Environment and Sustainable Development, Challenges and Solutions concluded its two-day activities, interspersed with various scientific sessions and workshops on renewable energies, geographic information systems, and data on the natural and human environment. It was hosted by the Islamic University in Lebanon under the patronage of its president. Dr. Dina Al-Mawla, represented by the Secretary General of the University Prof. Hussein Badran, and at the invitation of the President of the International Peace Forum for Culture and Science, Prof. Saad Ajeel Mubarak.

The President of the Forum in Lebanon was read by the Dean of the Faculty of Political and Diplomatic Sciences at the Islamic University, Prof. Ramez Ammar the following recommendations:

  • Legislating a law to invest in renewable energies to increase the percentage of their contribution to the total energy and to achieve safe supply of it, as well as to contribute to protecting the environment and achieving sustainable development.
  • Activating the work of government procedures that contribute to the distribution of industries, in order to enhance environmental protection and not deplete its resources.
  • Increasing environmental awareness among community members to preserve the environment and instill a love for nature and agriculture to secure the requirements of food security as an important goal of the sustainable development goals.
  • The existence of a national will capable of carrying out integrated economic reforms and eliminating corruption of all kinds as a step to achieving financial sustainability.
  • Activating the economic policies that encourage ecotourism in the marshlands, with the aim of diversifying sources of income in Iraq.
  • The necessity of working to exploit the available potentials in the production of renewable energy by encouraging research and scientific studies that are interested in this field.
  • Adopting a comprehensive strategy to reduce environmental pollution in the long run and benefit from the experiences of successful countries in this field to achieve the goals of sustainable development.
  • Adopting remote sensing and all information systems in building integrated databases through twinning between universities, starting with researchers in Iraq and the Islamic University in Lebanon.
  • The necessity for the anti-terrorism laws to include penal provisions that are capable of dealing with terrorism occurring in the environment and that indirectly targets citizens.

At the end of the conference, Dr. Mubarak and Dr. Ammar Secretary General of the Islamic University d. The forum decided to hold its conference next year, entitled “Sustainable development policies and their modern trends in the midst of contemporary challenges”.

At the invitation of the Islamic University in Lebanon and the cultural movement in Lebanon, the Minister and Deputy Dr. Inaya Ezz El-Din a lecture entitled “Approach to Waste Management: Between Sustainability Principles and Practical Reality” this morning in the university branch hall in Tire, attended by the Secretary General of the University, Prof. Hussein Badran, and the Dean of the College of Political Science and Diplomacy, Prof. Ramez Ammar, the organizational officer of the Jabal Amel region in the Amal Ali Ismail movement, the director of public relations at the university, Dr. Hisham Al-Husseini, educational and social events, heads of municipalities, university professors, students, and interested persons.

The President of the Islamic University of Lebanon, Prof. Dina Al-Mawla in the activities of the Blunoots Conference for the Middle East and Africa 2019 at Zayed University in Dubai – United Arab Emirates, under the title “Continuing Education Strategy in the Education Journey; Using Analytics to Measure Progress and Support Decisions”, with the participation of a global group of major specialized institutions that meet to share opinions The best methods are applied in the field of analytical and graphic studies for educational institutions, which in turn organize annual regional meetings specialized in academic evaluation and questionnaire programs.

This conference allowed the participants to learn about the latest developments in the fields of institutional research, information technology, and also at the level of academic evaluation centers and centers for teaching and learning, in addition to giving the participants an opportunity to communicate with specialists in order to exchange views and ideas and advance academic knowledge and science.

It is worth mentioning that the Bluenotes Group is a global group of institutions that work in so-called “blue energy” interacting with each other to exchange ideas and best practices. The group holds a meeting several times a year to organize regional conferences called Bluenotes conferences where the participants communicate with each other and share They learn from each other’s experiences and share experiences.

The President signed a joint cooperation agreement during the conference with Explorance, which developed the Blue Program at the disposal of the Islamic University – the program on advanced analyzes to measure the quality of education and performance in the institution at all levels.

Work has already started with a team from the company and a specialized team from the Islamic University.

The university president also signed an academic cooperation agreement, while in Dubai, with the Center for Educational Innovations and Knowledge Solutions (CLICKS), aimed at achieving quality excellence, which included the possibility of giving specialized and innovative knowledge solutions that build the capabilities of internal institutions in terms of quality assurance in terms of leadership and performance of staff and faculty members. .

The Lord President also held several meetings with the founders and officials of the British company Knowledge E at its headquarters in Dubai and was briefed on its activities and work projects, as it signed a cooperation agreement with this company that is concerned with preparing and assisting higher education institutions for the global classification QS Ranking and Shanghai. In addition, the Foundation provides scientific content, technology, services and solutions all over the world, and it is concerned with training scientific competencies on how to write, coordinate and then publish scientific research, in accordance with specific international standards through the 3D methodology, which is based on:

On the sidelines of the conference, the President met with the heads of the participating universities and the President of Zayed University in Dubai, Prof. Riyadh Al-Muhaidib, and thanked the President of the University for the continued cooperation, relationship and communication with the Islamic University.

Under the patronage of Speaker Nabih Berri, represented by MP Ibrahim Azar, the Islamic University in Lebanon, in cooperation with the Francophone University Agency “AUF”, hosted the activities of the eleventh General Assembly of the Conference of Presidents of Francophone Universities in the Middle East (CONFREMO) this morning at its headquarters in Khalde, during which a conference was held Workshops to discuss how to establish higher institutes for doctorates and research governance in higher education institutions.

The Federation’s General Secretariat has adopted the idea of ​​this project, and we are communicating with some international institutions concerned in this regard to develop the project and bring it to implementation soon, God willing. On a related topic, contact has been made with some international institutions regarding the classification of periodicals for the Federation and its academic institutions, in addition to discussing the possibility of classifying the member Arab universities’ publications of various magazines and periodicals within the Scopus global system. Work is also underway to complete the Arab Impact Factor project. This is in cooperation with some academics specialized in this field, and this project will contribute to making a qualitative addition to our scientific publications in all our academic institutions at the Arab and international level, and we hope that this project will achieve great benefit for the Union in particular, and for Arab universities in general.
