The Islamic University of Lebanon (IUL) regularly hosts events that are open to the general public, including public lectures, community educational events, and workshops aimed at enhancing knowledge and fostering community engagement. IUL’s commitment to knowledge sharing and community involvement is evident through its organization of public conferences, seminars, and discussions that encourage participation from local residents, professionals, and individuals interested in specific subjects. These activities are designed not only to enrich the academic community but also to promote lifelong learning in the broader community.

For example, IUL may organize events in collaboration with government entities, non-governmental organizations (NGOs), and industry professionals to provide educational opportunities to the public, offering a space for dialogue, learning, and skill development.

Additionally, public events hosted by IUL often include open lectures from distinguished academics, experts, and thought leaders, offering valuable insights on a variety of topics relevant to local and regional development. SDG 4.3.2: IUL hosts events at university that are open to the general public: public lectures, community educational events

Among the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), adopted in 2015, SDG4 is dedicated to education. Higher education is mentioned in target 4.3 of SDG4 which aims to by 2030, ensure equal access for all women and men to affordable and quality technical, vocational, and tertiary education, including university

Since the ultimate function of the university is to provide youth with quality education, it has the responsibility to advocate the importance of SDGs in research, institutional culture, cooperation with other universities or organizations and preparing public-mindful leaders. Subsequently, the university must provide research knowledge, innovations and solutions towards achieving the SDGs. It must also advocate for faculty members to help students to set up projects, activities, campaigns… helping to promote the importance of being an active member of society. It must also cooperate with other institutions for higher education, and private and public organizations to identify educational problems and potential solutions in order to create a more sustainable, inclusive, and innovative world. Also, the university is a powerful institution that provide teaching. Learning inside the classroom isn’t enough to ensure graduates who can translate what they have learnt in books to real-word applications.

The Islamic University of Lebanon has adopted the strategy that aims at providing access to educational resources for almost everyone, starting from its national community (the Lebanese people) until everyone in the world and it provides access to educational resources for all the community of IUL as well as those who are not studying or working at it. Also, the university ensures a wide range of services such as research services via the online catalogue, books’ circulation, training sessions, daily newspapers and periodicals, free Wi-Fi services, photo copying and printing, etc.

In order to increase the number of people who profits from its services, IUL has created in 2017 a digital library with open free access for everyone. In this context, the digital library at the IUL is one of the most important libraries in the Middle East. One of the general strategies of Islamic university of Lebanon (IUL) is to provide access to educational resources for all people in the country. The IUL central library is one of the important units that provide this type of access to public and especially those not studying at the university for the purpose of best quality education. In addition of IUL Central Library, IUL also open in 2017 a digital library with open free access for all people. The IUL digital library is one of the important digital libraries in Middle East.

 

4.3 Lifelong learning opportunities
IUL provides lifelong learning education that is focused on personal development. Lifelong learning can help us to achieve personal fulfilment and satisfaction. It recognizes that humans have a natural drive to explore, learn and grow and encourages us to improve our own quality of life and sense of self-worth by paying attention to the ideas and goals that inspire us.

Symposium on the importance of multidisciplinary intervention in the context of Down syndrome.

The Faculty of Health at the Islamic University of Lebanon organized a symposium on the importance of multidisciplinary intervention in the context of Down syndrome at its headquarters in Khalde, attended by a crowd of specialized medical associations and centers, therapists, specialists, interested people, professors and students of the college.

After the national anthem, the symposium opened with a speech by the Head of the Pronunciation Department, Dr. Hiba Kassir welcomed the attendees, knowing the purpose of the symposium and the importance of spreading a culture of awareness, integrating children with disabilities into society, and supporting their parents to enable them to keep pace with and educate the child.

 The President of the Islamic University, Prof. Dr.. Dina Al-Mawla, Dean of the College of Health, Dr. Adnan Murad, during which he welcomed the attendees, pointing out the importance of ensuring human safety and dignity, and taking care of his health, especially awareness of all body pests and diseases through prevention and identification of the basis of each disease, pointing out that caring for children and people with special conditions and syndromes is the main title of our awareness and health fronts. And the academy.

He added: “Since our first day at the Islamic University, which started as an institute for nursing students in 2002, where it had only five or six students, we were then able, thanks to God and his strength and the efforts of the administrators of this generous institution, to reach a premium and transform the institute into a College of Nursing in 2007, where we were able to Graduating students, in fact, to the labor market, and we became the difficult number in the country’s hospitals and public health authorities, until we became marked by the College of Health Medal in 2016, when we had six departments from nursing to speech orthotics, physical therapy, laboratories, nutrition and midwifery … and the number that did not exceed The fingers of one hand among the graduates in 2002, today it is at a high summit, with more than 150 graduates annually from this academic edifice.

In the first paragraph of the symposium, the head of the Association of Friends of the Handicapped, Dr. Musa Sharaf El-Din, who highlighted the rights of people with disabilities in Lebanon, focused on the right of the disabled to obtain their rights to live with dignity and equality, calling on the state and society to provide the necessary care for the disabled and their families.

Dr. Saada Alama, a pediatric neurologist, spoke about the medical characteristics of Down syndrome children, stressing the need for medical follow-up from the first months of a child with Down syndrome.

In her speech, language therapist Maritza Abu Halka focused on the counseling program with children’s families accredited at the Aseel Early Treatment Center.

The language therapist, Ms. Duha Ramal, continued the talk about the therapeutic intervention in the field of language in its various stages, pointing out the importance of the individual plan in language intervention, since each case is different from the others, calling for relying on the strengths shown by the linguistic assessment to improve weak skills.

Ms. Dina Hamed, president of the teach association, concluded the first paragraph by discussing the behavioral challenges that may accompany a child with Down syndrome with a focus on behavioral therapy.

The first paragraph of the symposium concluded by presenting a group of students of the integration department at Al Kawthar High School, a performance paragraph that reflected the importance of integrating children with difficulties in regular schools.

 After the break, the second paragraph began with Dr. Zulfiqar Khazem, a physical therapist at the Mosan Center, talked about physical therapy for children with this syndrome, stressing the importance of developing motor abilities in children with the syndrome in a way that enhances their independence.

 The specialized nurse at the Sesobel Center, Mrs. Suzan Bou Abboud Samia, addressed the issue of nursing care for these children, focusing on the importance of providing the health care they need to enable them to express their mothers by using alternative means.

The social worker, Zainab Karneeb, from the Care Center of the Al-Imdad Charitable Society, focused in her speech on the role of the social counselor in enhancing the social skills of the child in partnership with the members of the treatment team in a way that secures the child’s education for acquisitions in the field of social communication.

Occupational therapist, Omaima Shami, spoke about the role of the occupational therapist in the multi-team, and the need to adapt the surrounding environment for a child with Down syndrome.

The symposium concluded with a performance technical segment for the sons of the Mosan Center for People with Special Needs, after which Dr. Murad medals for the participants in the symposium and special gifts for children.

 

Launching UNESCO, SAWA Project.

Under the supervision of the Lebanese National Committee for UNESCO, the UNESCO Club was launched through its first project at the Islamic University of Lebanon – Tire Branch, under the title “Sawa” which corresponds to the first goal of the Sustainable Development Goals “Eradication of Poverty”.

The campaign was launched by the students of the club members, and the students of the university and the administrative and educational bodies were invited to participate in this voluntary work in order to secure these needs.

Each volunteer will secure items, books, food and clothing that he does not want to be sorted and distributed to poor families, as their work will depend on collecting information about these families from the municipalities and the activities of the region. Then donation boxes were placed at the university in order to buy food and distribute it to the needy before the holy month of Ramadan. The club will also hold a free summer course for low-income children during the month of July, which we will announce later…

Italian municipality of Trikazi visit

 

A delegation from the Italian municipality of Trikazi visits the Islamic University of Lebanon, the photo branch.

Within the framework of the joint cooperation between the Italian Municipality of Trikazi and the Municipality of Sor within the BlueTyre project financed by the Italian Cooperation Agency, a delegation from the Municipality of Tricazi visited the city of Sor to see the stages of implementation of the project and determine the next steps.

Where the delegation visited the Islamic University of Lebanon – Sor branch and met with the branch manager Dr. Ghassan Jaber, where they discussed the establishment of a marine ecological observatory on the university campus, in preparation for the beginning of cooperation between the Islamic University and the Italian University of Salento, and where everyone hopes that this cooperation will be a step towards establishing a specialty in marine biology in University.

In his turn, Dr. Jaber welcomed the delegation in the name of the president of the university, Professor Hassan El-Qais, out of interest for cooperation between the Islamic University and the universities of Italy in the service of both countries and peoples.

Dr. Ghassan Jaber, a representative of the Islamic University, participated in the meeting of environmental societies and social educational institutions in the meeting invited by the municipality of Sor.

In his welcome speech, the Mayor of the Municipality of Surah and the President of the Union of Municipalities of Surah, Engineer Hassan Dubouq, emphasized the historical relationship that connects the Lebanese and Italian peoples, and considered that the practical stages of the Blue Tyre Project, which targeted the Surah Natural Beach Reserve, began to bear fruit and contributed to strengthening the capabilities of the reserve.

On his part, the director of the blue tyre project, Puerto Piccini, during the meeting, made a detailed presentation about the phases implemented of the project, and then the representative of the municipality of Trikazi Rosana Zuko made a statement in which she praised the cooperation between the two municipalities, confirming its continuity and development.

 

Day of Health Care and Services

 

Under the patronage of the President of the Islamic University of Lebanon, Professor Hassan Al-Qais, and as part of the celebration of the World Nursing Day, the Islamic University organized the “Day of Health Care and Services” which was held in the University building in Khalda

The ceremony began with the Lebanese national anthem, after which the president of the university joined the staff of the departments of the College of Public Health, where students of the college, under the supervision of the heads of departments, presented awareness and training presentations on taking care of health and promoting a healthy lifestyle for all

At the conclusion, the dean of the Faculty of Public Health, Dr. Adnan, by the way, made a speech expressing the importance of health awareness and its impact on the quality of life.

Solidarity Stand with the Nursing Department

In solidarity against the violence inflicted on health workers, the Faculty of Health of the Islamic University of Lebanon held a solidarity stand at the entrance of the university building in Khalda, with the participation of the head of the nursing department Dr. Al-Mohammed. Shaaban tweet, the administrative and educational body, as well as a crowd of academics and students.

Students have raised delegates to the phenomenon of violence that the medical sector is exposed to in its various fields, Dr. Sha’ban Ali, as an educational, administrative and student body of the Islamic University in Lebanon, we disguise the verbal and physical abuse of the medical sector in many hospitals and dispensaries.

Recall that, the solidarity stand was invited by both the nurses’ union in Lebanon and the health professions unions, where a conference was held in Beit Al-Tabib where the health professions were discussed on the subject of violence and its consequences and the steps required to reduce it by ensuring a safe working environment.

Concurrent Work and Education – Issues and Challenges

The Islamic University in Lebanon organized a dialogue seminar entitled “Concurrent Work and Education – Issues and Challenges.” The event hosted a delegation of experts representing higher education institutions in Lebanon, a representative from the Francophone University Agency, and a representative from the Bassel Fleihan Institute for Financial and Economic Studies. Several academics, students, and interested individuals also participated.

The seminar was attended by the Lebanese Minister of Labor, Mustafa Bayram, and the head of the Parliamentary Committee for Children and Women, Dr. Anaya Azeddine. The discussions covered various aspects of concurrent work and education, featuring insights into the French experience through a delegation from CNAM University in France. The participants concluded the need to establish a common ground for cooperation between universities, the parliamentary council, and the public and private sectors to activate the experience and assess its feasibility for implementation in Lebanon.

Dr. Hassan Al-Lakis, the President of the Islamic University, emphasized the necessity to explore innovative ways to address economic and social crises and the need to establish specialized centers for career guidance and capacity building. He highlighted various international partnerships, particularly in Europe. The summarized discussion points were entrusted to Bayram and Azeddine to convey to the executive and legislative authorities, hopeful for the implementation of this initiative in higher education institutions.

Bayram provided a detailed explanation of the challenges in the job market and economic reality, while Azeddine emphasized the need to focus on laws that govern training and vocational education, advocating for amendments linked to the job market.

The seminar concluded with an inclusive dialogue among attendees regarding the current situation and challenges, followed by an acknowledgment of the participants.

Sixth International Conference on Medical Engineering Technologies

The Islamic University of Lebanon is organizing the Sixth International Conference on Medical Engineering Technologies

The Faculty of Engineering at the Islamic University of Lebanon organized the Sixth International Congress of Medical Engineering Technologies, in the presence of the Secretary General of the university Nazia Gamoul, Captain of Engineers in Beirut Arif Yassin, representatives of international and Lebanese universities, researchers, engineers, academics and students.

Firstly, the President of the Islamic University of Lebanon, Dr. Dina Al-Mawli, in a short live speech from Dubai via Zoom, apologized for not attending the conference due to coinciding with her presence in the United Arab Emirates to participate in the event of the global rankings of the universities of the Arab country, which will announce the transfer of the Islamic University in Lebanon Up the rankings

Then, at the opening ceremony of the conference, a representative of the President of the IEEE Chapter in Lebanon, Dr. Bashar Al-Hassan, who praised the conference and praised the role of the Islamic University in Lebanon, especially that the International Conference of Medical Engineering Technologies is achieving scientific results required for this sector.

In his turn, the Captain of Engineers Arif Yassin confirmed that the conference maintains the scientific and academic level, calling for the necessity of developing a plan for the integration of research and education institutions and the needs of the labor market, and demanded the development of engineering specialties, affirming that the Islamic University of Lebanon was the precursor in the behavior of the development course. The Chief of Engineers described the conference as a sort of countermeasure to anyone trying to trade engineering education.

Then the president of the conference, Dr. Mohamed Khalil, Director of the Al-Azam Center for Research and Applications, made a speech in which he emphasized the role of the Islamic University of Lebanon that organizes and embraces the work of the Sixth Congress. He said the conference became the first in the region due to the importance of research and the quality of engineering researchers who are making important scientific, engineering, research and educational developments.

After that was the speech of the President of the Islamic University in Lebanon, Dr. Dina Al-Mawli, who was addressed by her representative at the conference, the Dean of the Faculty of Engineering at the University, Professor Dr. Mohamed Ayash, emphasized the role of the Islamic University scientifically and educational, and its contribution to the national integration and integration among the components of the Lebanese community. The goals of the Sixth International Conference on Medical Engineering Technologies are to bring together scientists, engineers and practitioners from around the world to present the latest developments, research, results, ideas and applications in all fields of biomedical engineering.
