SDG 1.4.3: IUL organizes training or programmes to improve access to basic services for all

Based on the vision of the Islamic University in Lebanon, whose first and last goal is to serve the Lebanese community, a group of professors and students of the Faculty of Engineering at the Islamic University of Lebanon had because of the spread of the Corona pandemic and because hospitals needed a greater number of respirators to help patients who contract the epidemic. Engineering at the Islamic University of Lebanon with the implementation of a respirator, which was called Nafas. The respirator was completed by a team consisting of Prof. Dr. Muhammad Ayyash, engineers Lailian al-Sahili, Asma Sarhan and Hussain Hazima, and the technicians were Abbas Diab and Hassan Shehadeh.

The opening ceremony was attended by the Minister of Industry, Imad Hoballah, the President of the Islamic University of Lebanon, events from the region, deans of colleges, heads of scientific departments, professors and a crowd of students.

The Islamic University in Lebanon has concluded several agreements to improve the level of students and enable them to enter the labor market, and these agreements include:

In 2020, an agreement was signed with the British Language Institute regarding students of the English language, and with the French Center for Languages with regard to students of the French language. This is in order to qualify the student and acquire a foreign language so that he can enter the labor market. These institutes accompany students under the supervision of specialists before them and under the supervision of the Director of the Language Institute at the Islamic University in Lebanon.

The “Language Rehabilitation Center” was established at the Islamic University in Lebanon, and among its objectives is to raise the level of all university students, in addition to students who want to learn a foreign language, so that it provides courses according to the requirements of the various colleges in the university, and it is directly linked to the university presidency. The center provides the following courses: French – English – Spanish and German.

The center also follows the approved levels according to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CECRL) and proposes five levels for students (A1 – A2.1 – A2.2 – B1.1 – B1.2) after taking a language placement test for new students in other colleges, 50 teaching hours are allocated to each level.

That training is one of the most prevalent approaches used in organizations, and the organization provides training to make managers and workers aware of some topics such as work teams, diversity, intelligence, and how to capture quality, decision-making, communication skills, and participatory management. Training programs aim to change the behavior of individuals and their skills from during the specialists in training centers.

IUL SDG
