The Department of Sustainable Development (DSD) looks for a forward-looking development policy.

“Sustainable development is development that meets the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs.”

DSD is committed for implementing the SDGs global goals and ensuring follow-up, to provide worldwide direction and guidance for addressing and resolving global challenges. Sustainable development is crucial to the future of the entire planet. The SDG framework ensures protection of the environment, economic prosperity, and social cohesion.

The SDGs have been incorporated into IUL’s institutional strategies, both in teaching and research as well as in management, into overall institutional strategy.

MISSION (Call for Auction)

Educational research and innovation play a significant role in sustainable development, establishing universities as key contributors to accomplishing the goals.

Through DSD, IUL will offer ground-breaking research, superior quality education, and cutting-edge innovation. IUL’s vital role to equip its students to becoming agents of change.

IUL education system and training can act as facilitator and promote the shift to a more sustainable community. IUL being an institution of Higher Education has several duties and responsibilities that go beyond the classrooms and research. IUL play a critical instrumental role in enhancing and improving the lives of not only their students, but of the whole community surrounding them.

The Islamic University of Lebanon is carrying out different strategies, activities, and actions to contribute to each of the SDGs and thus make the University focused on contributing to society and the educational community. “A key element in all sustainability strategies is the “whole-institution approach”, meaning all parts of the university community, including external stakeholders, are involved in the efforts.”

OBJECTIVES ((The Way Forward: the 17 Goals)

Through education, IUL aids its students recognize the SDGs and address them and provide academic and professional coaching and training targeted towards SDG solutions. SDGs are designed to guide students towards a brighter future. Through research, IUL encourages its students to undertake interdisciplinary projects linked to the SDGs and endorse new sustainable development solutions. IUL also promotes events to interact with the local community and increase public awareness of the sustainable development cause.

Accentuating on building capacity and providing substantial assistance for the SDG objectives as well as their related thematic challenges, encompassing urbanization, transportation, science, and technology, as well as water, energy, climate, and oceans. IUL work directly contributes to achieving many of the SDGs:
